15 modules, 5 levels
Level 1, Foundation & infrastructure
Navigation, Hub, NewsDeck & Notes, free for every EPTA5 user
Navigation, subscription tiers & workspace
The opening module of EPTA ACADEMY puts you at home in the terminal before you touch a single dataset. It walks the main navigation bar entry by entry: Seasonality, Micro, Macro, Hub, Sandbox, Watchlist, Network, Notes, Brain AI, Track Record and Settings: then the four persistent floating buttons that follow you from page to page, and the workspace settings that make the terminal yours: three visual themes, five interface languages and the PageTour guided walkthrough. It then opens the commercial layer that governs what you can actually reach: the Classic, Premium and Professional tiers defined in shared/planEntitlements.js, the quotas attached to each, and the enforcement machinery: canCreateFolder, clampRowsToTier, the epta5:plan-lock event and PlanLockModal, that turns those numbers into visible behaviour. You finish able to read any lock you meet and say immediately whether it is a quota, a tier boundary, or a page you simply have not opened yet.
- Name every entry in the EPTA5 main navigation bar and the tools grouped in the right-hand icon cluster
- Locate, reposition and reset the four global floating buttons, and explain where their position is stored and why they disappear on Sandbox
Hub & spatial navigation, the 3D globe
The Hub is the landing screen of the EPTA5 terminal and the only place in the application where world markets are rendered on an interactive 3D globe. This module takes the screen apart block by block: the canvas and d3-geo globe with its Zones and Points modes, the HubSearchBar unified search, the DXY and VIX metric cards, the URTH Seasonal Pattern mini-chart, the GDELT-fed Live Conflicts badge, the WorldClocksStrip and the Analyses & Risks column (HubRiskPanel). It then sets out the theory the screen rests on: implied volatility, dollar strength, sector rotation, calendar anomalies, choropleth mapping and close-to-close returns, and walks you through the live interface until spatial navigation becomes reflex rather than exploration.
- Situate the Hub within the terminal's navigation rail (Seasonality, Micro, Macro, Hub, Sandbox, Watchlist, Network, Notes, Brain AI, Track Record, Settings) and explain why it is the natural starting point of a session
- Identify the Hub's functional blocks: 3D globe, HubSearchBar, News Pipeline, metric cards, WorldClocksStrip and the Analyses & Risks column, and how each routes you into a deeper module
NewsDeck & Notes: building your research workspace
This module covers NewsDeck, the terminal's customisable multi-source newsroom, and its natural extension, the Notes page, dedicated to building up your research. You learn to assemble a board of news columns, to work with BRAIN AI reports at column level and across the whole board, to read the four watchlist HUDs, and to get to grips with the AI-assisted notes editor. Along the way it sets out exactly what each subscription tier unlocks, NewsDeck is closed on Classic, and connects the practice to market efficiency, sentiment and behavioural biases from the CFA curriculum.
- Understand where NewsDeck and Notes sit across the Classic (48 €/month), Premium (98 €/month) and Professional (198 €/month) tiers, and how the plan-lock mechanism behaves when a page is closed to you
- Build and steer a board of news columns suited to an investment strategy, with a first critical reflex about the sources actually behind each column
Level 2: Quantitative analysis & seasonality
Top Patterns, Focus Research & VaR, Momentum
Top Patterns & multi-criteria screening
Top Patterns and the Screener are the two entry points into the Seasonality module's pattern universe: one ranks that universe for you, the other lets you interrogate it on your own terms. Top Patterns opens on a medalled Top3 podium and unfolds into the Top10 (current calendar month), Top20 (active US election phase) and Top30 (annual) rankings, each driven by an explicit weighted score formula and policed by a hard risk cap that removes any pattern whose max drawdown or max loss exceeds 70% in absolute value. The Screener turns the same universe into a multi-criteria grid: ticker, start month, duration, minimum score, win rate, Sharpe, Sortino, mean return, a max-drawdown ceiling, a Require Fundamentals switch and four macro-factor buttons, and is entirely locked on the Classic tier. This certification confirms you can read those rankings for what they are: weighted, filtered, tier-bounded and, when the red Demo data ribbon appears, not real at all.
- Read the Top3 podium and the Top10, Top20 and Top30 rankings, and state which population and which score formula each one is built on
- Apply the year-modulo-4 election phase formula and use the Window and US Election Cycle global filters correctly
Focus Research: mathematical risk modelling (VaR)
Focus / Research is the one screen in the whole Seasonality workspace that computes live, on real closing prices pulled from the terminal's stock_prices table. You draw a window on the historical chart: by dragging, or with the two CalendarPicker selectors and the Analyze button: and the engine function calcPatternStats returns a full risk profile of that window: win rate, arithmetic, geometric and logarithmic means, sample standard deviation, Sharpe, Sortino, maximum drawdown, annualised return, and above all the three Value-at-Risk methodologies: parametric, historical and Monte Carlo, completed by CVaR, the expected shortfall beyond the threshold. This certification confirms you can produce those numbers, read the gap between the three VaR variants as a statement about the shape of the tail, and know exactly where the maths stops being informative. It also covers the practical envelope around the calculation: how far back your subscription tier lets you look, how the plan lock intervenes, and how to hand the exact computed metrics over to BRAIN AI.
- Set an analysis window in Focus / Research by chart drag or CalendarPicker and understand how the sample of yearly returns is built from real closing prices
- Reproduce by hand the metrics calcPatternStats returns: win rate, geometric and logarithmic mean, sample standard deviation, Sharpe, Sortino, maximum drawdown and annualised return
Momentum & relative strength
This module explains the momentum factor, the medium-term return-continuation anomaly documented in the Fama-French style factor literature, then shows how to read it concretely in EPTA5 through the two live panels stacked in the Hub's right-hand column: Sector Momentum and Keys Levels Index. You will learn to use the 1D/1W/1M window toggle, to understand exactly which field each toggle reads (chg_1d_pct, chg_1w_pct, chg_1m_pct), how those genuine close-to-close changes are produced by the notre partenaire de données EOD to R2 price pipeline and served through the shared usePricesLatest() store, and why the terminal prints a dash rather than an invented figure when a value is missing. It closes on the risks of momentum investing: momentum crashes, sector over-concentration and longer-horizon mean reversion.
- Define momentum investing as the cross-sectional ranking of assets by recent performance, and relate it to the medium-term return-continuation anomaly of the Fama-French style factor literature
- Locate the Sector Momentum and Keys Levels Index panels in the Hub's right-hand column and explain how they are stacked and wired together
Level 3: Corporate fundamental analysis
Vision 360, balance sheet, cash flow & capital allocation
Vision 360 & the income statement
Vision 360 is the entry point of the terminal's Micro module: the single screen where a company's identity, its SWOT and its six fundamental panels are assembled before you go any deeper. This module teaches you to read that overview the way an analyst reads a first page, then to follow profit down the income statement from revenue to operating income and on to net income, using the formulas the terminal actually implements in indicatorInfo.js. It closes on the discipline that separates a competent reading from a naive one: setting net income against operating cash flow to judge the quality of the earnings a company reports, and recognising that the depth of history on screen is itself clamped by the user's subscription tier.
- Locate Vision 360 inside the terminal's real navigation and explain what the company sheet, the SWOT panel and the six fundamental panels each contribute to a first read
- Reproduce the operating-income cascade the terminal implements, revenue minus COGS, R&D, SG&A and other operating charges, and explain what it deliberately leaves out
Balance sheet: solvency & liquidity analysis
This module concentrates on the balance-sheet side of Micro: the Balance Sheet–Assets, Balance Sheet–Liabilities and Equity sub-pages, where the terminal exposes a company's financial structure rather than its profit and loss. You learn to read the asset base (cash, PP&E, goodwill), the split between short- and long-term debt and net debt, and the equity block including retained earnings, then to score solvency and liquidity with the ratios the terminal actually computes: debt-to-equity, current ratio, ROE, ROA and book value per share. A documented discrepancy is covered in detail, the Net Debt & Leverage Ratio chart carries an info card announcing net debt / EBITDA while the engine computes total debt / equity, so you quote the calculation that runs, not the label that is printed. History depth on every one of these charts is clamped by subscription tier, which changes how far back a solvency trend can honestly be read.
- Navigate the three balance-sheet sub-pages of Micro: Balance Sheet–Assets, Balance Sheet–Liabilities and Equity, and state what each one answers
- Read the structure of a balance sheet on screen: cash, PP&E and goodwill on the asset side; short-term debt, long-term debt and net debt on the liability side; equity and retained earnings below
Cash flow & capital allocation
This module covers the last two sub-pages of Micro, Cash Flow and Capital Allocation, where you stop reading accounting profit and start reading cash. It sets out how the terminal builds free cash flow from operating cash flow and capex, how the FCF Conversion Ratio is read against its 1x reference line, how capital intensity is measured, and how the Capital Allocation screen exposes what management actually does with the cash: dividends, buybacks and share issuance. It also flags the labelling point you must check before quoting a figure: the Shareholder Yield chart divides by net income and not by market capitalisation.
- Read the Cash Flow Waterfall and tell operating, investing and financing flows apart on a real company
- Build free cash flow the way the terminal does: operating_cash_flow plus capex, capex carrying a negative sign, and interpret it against net income
Level 4: Macro analysis & AI engineering
Global mapping & Krach, Compare & z-scores, BRAIN AI
Global mapping, cockpit & the Krach stress model
This module covers the three blocks of the Macro menu that answer the question "what state is the world economy in": the Vision 360 world map, the data cockpit sitting beneath it, and the Krach Indicator stress model, together with the Macro States severity scoring that grades a country. You will learn to read the flat ECharts choropleth and its catalogue of roughly 38 WEO codes and 7 BIS codes: 13 of which are deliberately excluded by the CORRUPT_WEO_CODES filter: to drive the Market Monitor and the Indicator Explorer across their five families of indicators, to apply the five-level severity grid with its exact thresholds for growth, inflation, fiscal balance, public debt and the current account, and to decompose any of the eight Krach themes into trend and cycle with the Hodrick-Prescott filter, the only place in the whole terminal where that filter is used. Two boundaries matter throughout: the Global Macro page and its roughly 33 global indicators lives under Seasonality › Macro Seasonality › Global, not here, and the interactive 3D globe belongs to the Hub. Cross-country comparison in z-scores is handled in its own module.
- Situate the Macro module correctly in the EPTA5 architecture: navigation rail Seasonality, Micro, Macro, Hub, Sandbox, Watchlist, Network, Notes, Brain AI, Track Record, Settings, and know that Global Macro sits under Seasonality and the 3D globe under the Hub
- Drive the Vision 360 World Map: Analyse with BRAIN AI, country search, the WEO/Macro and BIS/Credit indicator selector, the EU, US, CN and EM region chips with their Avg/Sum/Max/Min bar, and the Conflicts checkbox
Cross-country comparison, Compare & z-scores
Compare is the sub-page of the Macro module built for putting countries side by side. It takes up to six WEO series at once, standardises each one into z-scores so that percentages of GDP, growth rates and absolute levels can share a single axis, and computes a pairwise Pearson correlation on those standardised series over the years they have in common. This module covers the normalisation engine behind computeCompareAnalysis, the selection and period filters, the four columns of the analysis table (n, mean z, standard deviation on n−1, latest z), the three-point minimum on correlations, and how to read co-movement and structural divergence without over-reading a short sample.
- Explain why raw macroeconomic series cannot be compared on one chart and how standardisation into z-scores solves the scale problem
- Set up a Compare view from Macro › Compare with up to six WEO series, the right metric and the right period window
BRAIN AI: quant engine & financial prompt engineering
BRAIN AI is the EPTA5 terminal's quant copilot, and it is built on a bring-your-own-key principle: you supply your own LLM key, it is held only in the browser's sessionStorage for the length of a thirty-minute session, and every call travels straight from your browser to the provider without passing through EPTA5 servers. This module dissects the six supported providers with their key formats, default models and free-tier availability, the automatic fallback that keeps a session alive when a provider errors out, the thirteen Trading Desk personas including consensus mode and its confidence score, and the entirely client-side lexical RAG grounding with its documentary authority hierarchy running Hull, then the CFA curriculum, then the Polytechnique researchers, then EDHEC and Centrale. It also covers the mechanics that matter commercially: the shared monthly analysis quota of 50 on Classic, 150 on Premium and unlimited on Professional, consumed jointly by chat, Macro and Micro analyses and NewsDeck, and the asynchronous job manager brainJobs.js that lets an analysis finish while you keep navigating the terminal. A guided case, a downloadable handout and an eight-question quiz close the path to the certification badge.
- Explain the client-side BYOK architecture and state exactly where the API key lives and for how long
- Identify the six supported LLM providers from their key format, and name their default model and free-tier availability
Level 5: Performance steering & data governance
Track record, Network, telling real data from synthetic
Track record & portfolio-management mathematics
Track Record is EPTA5's multi-account trading and investment journal, reachable from its own entry in the main navigation and open on every subscription tier. It is organised into four tabs: Overview, Trades, Goals and Projections, and it turns a scattered execution history into an auditable performance record. This module teaches you to read the eight KPI cards and three charts, to record positions in Invest or Trading format, to import an execution history in any of the four supported modes while the duplicate filter does its work, and above all to interpret the risk-adjusted mathematics computed in trackRecordKpis.js: win rate, expectancy, R:R ratio, annualised Sharpe and Sortino, and maximum drawdown.
- Navigate the four Track Record tabs: Overview, Trades, Goals and Projections, and state what each one is responsible for
- Read the eight KPI cards and the three Overview charts, and know which figure comes from which calculation
Network & community
The Network module adds a social layer to the terminal: friends, private and group messaging, peer rating, public profiles and a global community chat, switchable on or off to taste and open on every subscription tier. This module explains the thinking behind it, connects it to information diffusion, behavioural biases and reputation from the CFA curriculum, then walks step by step through the real screen: connection requests, the wall, private conversations, social score, presence and community chat. It also opens the machinery behind the glass, from the /api/social/* routes in api-social.js and the friendships and user_profiles tables created by migration 0023_social_graph.sql, to the global_chat_messages and user_chat_rating tables from 0017_global_chat.sql and the maskProfanity filter in moderation.js, so that you understand not only what the buttons do but what the terminal actually records.
- Understand what the Network module is for within the terminal and how it is switched on
- Distinguish the messaging channels (community wall, private conversations, global community chat) and their respective rating mechanisms
Data governance: telling real from synthetic
Every figure on EPTA5 falls into one of three states: it is real data pulled from the financial bases, seeded synthetic data generated for illustration, or a module or chart held on standby or locked in the interface. This module teaches you to tell them apart before you quote a number: through the documented gaps between an info card's wording and the formula the code actually computes, the SANDBOX_STANDBY flag, the seeded generators behind certain Seasonality sub-pages, the red Demo data ribbon that flags a backend fallback, and the silent 70% drawdown cap that removes rows from a ranking. This data literacy is EPTA Academy's real differentiator: it makes the analyst dependable in front of a client and defuses complaints after the fact.
- Classify any displayed figure into one of three provenance states: real, seeded synthetic, standby or locked, before acting on it or putting it in front of a client
- Identify the charts whose info card does not match the formula the code actually computes, in particular Net Debt & Leverage Ratio and Shareholder Yield vs Net Income in Micro
